Kidlington is a well-established event in the English tournament calendar with a seasoned team of experienced controllers and a friendly atmosphere. The congress is a five-round tournament divided into four sections: Under-225, Under-180, Under-145, and Under-120. The total prize fund is currently £1930. We also have an excellent bookstall provided by Chess Direct, and a fine range of refreshments provided by Hackett’s Food & Drink of Witney.
Kidlington is an ECF Grand Prix event, as well as having become once again in 2016 a British Championship Qualifying Tournament, with the winner of the U225 section (or, if he/she is already qualified, the next-highest-placed eligible player) qualifying for a place in the 2016 British Chess Championship to be held at the end of July in Bournemouth.
Our 39th annual tournament was held last weekend. Under the ‘2016’ tab, I have posted a list of the prizewinners, as well as links to the crosstables of the four sections and to Brendan O’Gorman’s selection of his photos of the event. A brief report on the tournament should follow there in the next couple of days.
Next year we shall reach a notable milestone with our 40th annual tournament, which will be held at our usual venue, Exeter Hall, Kidlington, on Saturday & Sunday 4 & 5 February, 2017. We hope to see you there!
Further details and entry forms will be available later in the year, and I shall post more about our plans for next year from time to time on our News page.
